I should say a little more about myself. I am 34
years old, university educated, and I live in a middle
class neighborhood in Sao Paulo. I have many friends
in the media community, as well as friends and friends
of friends in government and the medical establishment,
so, I am well placed to receive information from a variety
of sources. I am not married, but my sister has two
children with her husband who are seven and nine years
years of age. I have been involved in community
organization, not as my job but as an interest, for ten
years. When news of the Zika virus first came out, many
of my friends began to become actively engaged in
information gathering. So, I find myself in a good position
for the task that I have in mind.

Introducing Hector Arecibo

Jan 31, 2016

My name is Hector Arecibo.
I have been a resident of Sao Paulo, Brazil,
my whole life. My friend, John Tischer, is
posting entries to my blog, "Virus" for me, since I wish
to remain anonymous. So obviously, I am using a
pseudonym. The purpose of my blog is to educate,
make observations of, and document the progress
and disposition of the Zika virus in Brazil. The
society I live in has certain aspects that are highly
favorable for the promulgation of this virus, and my
people need all the information available to raise their
awareness, and the dangers that, in fact, our society
now faces with the advent of this problem. This blog
will be in the form of a daily (hopefully) diary, with
relative references to news items, community comments
and observations, and general discussions about the Zika
virus, and how our society is dealing with this problem.
I hope to bring awareness of the events happening in
my country in relation to this problem not only to my
people, but to the rest of the world, since the potential
is there for this to be a problem that spreads beyond Brazil.
I hope that my efforts in this are beneficial to all people.

Hector
